(Thi-thiên 111:9)
Dân sự Chúa vốn đẹp lòng về giao ước Ngài. Ðó là những nguồn suối an ủi không bao giờ cạn tắt đối với họ, khi Ðức Thánh Linh vẫn thường dìu dắt họ vào phòng tiệc vừa nêu cao ngọn cờ tình thương. Họ thích suy nghĩ về thời tối cổ của giao ước ấy, nhớ rằng trước khi các ngôi sao biết vị trí của chúng hay các hành tinh chạy theo quỹ đạo, thì Chúa Christ Jêsus đã bảo đảm quyền lợi của các thánh đồ. Ðiều thích thú đặc biệt đối với họ là nhớ rằng giao ước vốn chắc chắn khi họ suy gẫm về những ơn thương xót chắc chắn đối cùng Ða-vít. Họ thích thú kỷ niệm việc đó như đã được ký tên, đóng ấn, phê chuẩn và sắp xếp cẩn thận cả rồi. Lòng họ thường hớn hở vui mừng khi nghĩ về bất biến tính của nó, vì là một giao ước mà cả thời gian, cõi đời đời, sự sống hay sự chết đều sẽ chẳng bao giờ xâm phạm được — một giao ước xưa như cõi đời đời, mà cũng vĩnh cửu như Vầng Ðá của các thời đại. Họ cũng vui mừng vì được hưởng sự đầy đủ của giao ước ấy, vì trong đó, họ thấy mình được cung ứng mọi sự.
Ðức Chúa Trời là gia tài của họ, Ðấng Christ là bạn thân của họ, Ðức Thánh Linh là Ðấng Yên ủi họ, đất là nhà trọ của họ, và trời là quê hương của họ. Họ thấy đó là cơ nghiệp dành riêng và đưa đến cho tất cả những linh hồn nào quan tâm đến chứng thư ban tặng cổ xưa và đời đời kia. Mắt họ ngời lên khi thấy đó là báu vật chôn trong Kinh Thánh; nhưng linh hồn họ còn vui mừng hơn biết bao khi thấy rằng theo lời trối cuối cùng và di chúc của người bà con thiên thượng, thì điều đó được truyền lại cho họ thừa hưởng! Ðặc biệt hơn nữa là dân Chúa sẽ vui mừng chiêm ngưỡng phần ân điển trong giao ước ấy. Họ thấy rằng luật đã trở thành vô hiệu vì đó là một giao ước của việc làm và tùy thuộc vào công lao, nhưng giao ước nầy thì họ thấy là sẽ tồn tại mãi mãi vì nền tảng của nó là ân điển: ân điển là điều kiện, ân điển là phần cấu tạo, ân điển là thành trì, ân điển là nền tảng và ân điển là viên đá cuối cùng đặt trên nóc tòa nhà giao ước. Giao ước là một kho tàng phong phú, một vựa thực phẩm, là nguồn sống, là kho dự trữ sự cứu rỗi, là bản tuyên ngôn hòa bình và là bến hoan lạc.
