5 Bible Verses To Share With Cancer Patients

5-Bible-Verses-To-Share-With-Cancer-Patients-615X323

Here are five Bible verses that you can share with cancer patients.

Psalm 41:2 “The LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.”

The psalmist knew that it was God alone Who brought life and keeps us alive, even if we’re on our deathbed or someone you know is on their deathbed. God has determined an appointed day of death for us all (Heb 9:27), and for most of us, we don’t know when that day will be, so we must trust the sovereignty of God Who alone knows the future. We can trust a God Who knows what lies ahead of us, even when we can’t see around the corner.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

The Apostle Paul wrote this verse to the Christians at Rome and many of whom had lost everything and some lost their lives so Paul was reminding them (and us) that no matter what happens, good or bad, it will work out for our very best…even if it’s cancer because not even cancer can separate us from the love of God (Rom 8:39).

Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

In the future, we who have trusted in Christ can know with certainty that this present evil world and all of the suffering that goes with it will be gone forever…someday. In the day of Jesus’ establishing the kingdom of God on earth, all of the pain, suffering, sorrow, mourning, and even death will be history. Jesus conquered the grave and overcame death so that we too might live again.

Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”

God looks at the death of His beloved saints in a similar way that we do. Their life was precious to Him and it was to God’s sight just as it is for us but, we know it’s not goodbye but “see you later,” because God is the God of the living and not the dead (Mark 12:27). Jesus speaks as if Abraham is still alive because he is…and actually more alive than when he was on earth.

Psalm 41:3 “The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.”

The Lord promises to sustain those who are on their deathbed, but this is not a promise that He will heal every person that’s sick or dying. We sometimes stubbornly cling to our family and friends who might be dying of cancer. For us it’s the end…but for them, it’s just the beginning of eternal joy in the presence of the Lord and we who are saved will see them again. I doubt very seriously that once these dearly departed saints are with the Lord that they’d want to come back into their cancer-ridden bodies. Besides, we will all be restored to“full health” in the day of Jesus’ return or our death.

Conclusion

Sometimes there is nothing we can say except we’re sorry for what they’re going through. There may be nothing we can say…and that’s okay, because just to be with someone shows you care about them. They don’t expect you to solve their problem…like cancer…but just to be there for them and to be a friend and pray for them. Since there isn’t anything we can do about the cancer doesn’t mean we can’t do anything.

May God richly bless you,
